A few days ago, the KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had stated that in 2018, Apple might introduce three new iPhones and that will be a 6.5-inch and 5.8- inch OLED models and a 6.1-inch TFT-LCD model, all equipped with a full-screen design and TrueDepth Camera (front 3D sensing), as with iPhone X. However the 6.1 inch LCD screen model will be a low-end version and will give lower resolution that OLED screen. Now a new report has just come in reveling some more information about Apple’s 2018 iPhone model. As per the latest report the, Apple will unveil a 6.1 inch iPhone in 2018, but the device will come with a metal back like the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has.
Recently, Apple had adopted the new glass back design for the iPhone 8 and that enabled Apple to give wireless charging feature in the iPhone 8. Now the new report somehow brings a shadow of doubt whether the upcoming 2018 iPhone model will support wireless charging or not.
Samsung Display, a unit of Samsung Electronics is the only supplier of OLED panels for Apple devices and for this reason Apple wants to maintain a lineup of LCD display smartphones until it has got another supplier of OLED panels.
Sources said, “The 6.1-inch LCD model will probably sport a metal back [like older iPhones] available in several colors.” It further stated that the two OLED handsets would come in two sizes; one will come with a 6.3 inches long display, and the other will come with a 5.8-inch display. Retaining the LCD models will help the company to offer different colors iPhone, the users. So the iPhone 7 comes in five different color variant. The source said that there was a chance that Casetek would win orders for the LCD model.
However, the company has not informed about its upcoming 2018 iPhone models and also there is no report that when the company will reveal the information about the models.
